(b. 1991, Bradford, UK) is an artist inquiring into the relationship between internal experience and the external world. Multi-layered paintings on natural linen are developed over time, often across different locations, piecing together fragments of personal memory into tactile, vibrant, surreal compositions.
Visually informed by meditative practice, Cal's process works intuitively with mark-making and colour to compose scenes within a re-imagined mindscape. Sharing both intimate and inanimate subject matter, the works play with the polarising tensions that shape human experience — indulgence and restraint, loneliness and intimacy, addiction and liberation.
After graduating from Nottingham Trent University in Design for Film in 2013, Cal's practice developed through event production and installation, street art and mural projects as well as self-promoted solo exhibitions. Between 2022 and 2026 he worked nomadically in South Asia on self-directed residencies. He is currently in Mallorca, Spain.
